Overview

The 4Runner TRD Pro has a hard ride with Pro suspension with 2.5-inch TRD Bilstein shocks and retuned springs. The SUV also gets a raised ride height, 1.0 inch up front and 2.0 inches out back. Wrapped around the standard 17-inch matte black TRD alloy wheels is Nitto Terra Grappler all-terrain tires for maximum off-road prowess. Up front is an aluminum TRD-stamped skid plate to help keep rocks and debris from hitting powertrain components. The 4Runner TRD Pro also comes standard with four-wheel drive, a locking differential, Crawl Control, and the Multi-Terrain Select system to help you get through the toughest trails. The steering is very responsive and this 4Runner is ready for off road duty. Just came back from a 300 mile drive to Wisconsin and the 4Runner handled superbly and I was able to pack the cargo area with abundance of equipment.

Under the Hood

Powering the 4Runner TRD Pro is a 4.0-liter V-6 with 270 hp and 278 lb-ft of torque paired to a five-speed automatic transmission.

Inside

Inside the 4Runner’s cabin the infotainment system is an older version of Toyota’s Entune with a 6.1-inch touchscreen, which is easy to use.

The 4Runner TRD Pro seats five with a ton of cargo space with the rear seats down.. Both rows of seats offer plenty of support and are comfortable enough for long drives. Second-row passengers are also able to recline the seatbacks on a road trip.

Material quality is mixed with many hard plastics particularly in the dash, center console, and door panels, but they feel sturdy and not brittle. The Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro sticks with large buttons and knobs, making it easy to interact with the multimedia and HVAC systems. Visibility is excellent, thanks to the large windows through out the 4Runner

2017 Toyota Yaris IA

Overview

Driving Impression

Driving the 2017 CX-9 with its turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-4 with 250 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque is a unique experience. The responsive steering along with the excellent braking is a unique experience for such a large SUV.

The CX-9 accelerates with ease and its 6-speed automatic works effortlessly at any speed.

There is a Sport mode that enhances the driving experience for the CX-9.

The CX-9’s firm power steering works well when taking any turn you take at any speed.

CX-9 has a new engine, the SKYACTIV-G 2.5T. It’s a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder direct injection unit that produces 250 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque with 93-octane (Premium) gas, or 227 hp with 87-octane (Regular) gasoline. My test drive was a Signature model with i-ACTIV all-wheel drive. Standard electronic features like Roll Stability Control, Dynamic Stability Control and Traction Control make the ride even more secure.

Inside

The 2017 CX-9 interior is highlighted with genuine rosewood trim, which surrounds the center console. Also the Aluminum trim enhances the interior, which has a upscale look. The center stack is highlighted with a combination of buttons and controls, which are easy to navigate. There is more than adequate storage space with several useful covered bins and an open tray beneath the center stack. The 8-inch navigation screen is attached to the top of the dashboard, handily in the driver’s line of vision. The instrument panel has three round sections housing an analog speedometer, tachometer and a digital driver information system. The leather is high quality and the seating is very comfortable.

The Signature trim level came with a technology package, that goes beyond the baseline of luxury. Heated Nappa leather seats, premium Bose sound, a power lift gate with adjustable height and keyless entry with pushbutton start are just a few of the many creature features, that the Signature trim level comes equipped with. The technology continues with Active Driving Display, a head-up information screen that is projected on the windshield. Blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert, High Beam Control (HBC), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), radar adaptive cruise control, rear backup sensor, Smart City Brake Support (SCBC) and Smart Brake Support (SBS) are all included with the Signature trim.

Outside

The exterior of the 2017 CX-9 Signature is a continuation of Mazda’s Kodo “Soul of Motion” design, that you find on the CX-3 and CX-5. Highlighting the CX-9 is a large open-mouthed grille with a chrome “M” badge at center. Highlighting this CX-9 were LED grille accent lighting, LED headlights and fog lights accenting the front end. Twenty-inch aluminum alloy wheels highlight the Signature trim level, which give the CX-9 a muscular appearance. The CX-9 has the appearance of a vehicle in motion.

Driving Impression 

The 2017 Lexus CT 200h F Sport’s has four-wheel fully independent suspension, specially tuned dampers and springs. MacPherson struts up front and a double wishbone rear. All of these unique suspension components give the 200h F Sport a stiff but stable ride with little body roll when cornering.

The brakes are excellent for stopping at any speed and the steering is very responsive. The CT 200h is fun to drive and has a very unique appearance.

Under the Hood

The 2017 Lexus CT 200h F Sport is powered by Lexus Hybrid Drive, which has a parallel hybrid system where the electric motor can power the car by itself. The gas engine can power the car by itself, or they can power the car together. The Lexus Hybrid Drive system comprises a 1.8L DOHC, four-cylinder gasoline engine paired with two electric generators producing 134 horsepower, mated to an electronic Continuously Variable Transmission (e-CVT). EPA fuel estimates are 43 city/40 highway/42 mpg combined

Inside

My test drive was the 2017 Lexus CT 200h F Sport with the optional F Sport Luxury Package. The interior has excellent fit and finish, highlighted with a perforated leather steering wheel and shift knob, and heated smooth leather front seats and aluminum sport pedals. Front seat are extremely comfortable and 10-way power driver seat.

All controls are convenient to reach and use, and the gauges (are easy to see and read.

The optional F Sport Luxury package includes navigation and the Lexus Enform System. The 10-speaker premium audio system is part of the Luxury package with SiriusXM/FM/CD/HD AM radio with iPod/MP3 playback capability and Siri Eyes Free.

The CT 200h did not come standard with any Advanced Driver Assist Technologies, such as blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control and other advanced safety systems. 

Outside

The Lexus CT 200h F Sport has a unique design and sleek proportions. Beginning with the low stance, the CT 200h F Sport has five-spoke wheels and low profile tires. The Lexus trademark mesh grille stands-out, and the integrated rear hatch spoiler. LED headlights, fog and driving lamps up front and LED taillights complete the package.

The Forte ride and handling are good for a vehicle in its price range. The steering was responsive and cornering controlled in my test car. The Forte S was easy to maneuver was easy to park in tight spaces.
